Yahaya Bello finally arraigned for alleged N110bn fraud

The immediate former Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, arrived at the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court in Abuja on Wednesday for the hearing of the alleged N110 billion fraud charges leveled against him.

Bello, who was declared wanted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in April 2024, reported to the commission’s headquarters in Abuja on Tuesday.

He was subsequently questioned by EFCC operatives before being taken to court on Wednesday morning to face the charges.

The EFCC had initially filed 19 charges against Bello, accusing him and his nephews—Ali Bello, Dauda Sulaiman, and Abdulsalam Hudu—of money laundering offenses involving over N80 billion.

The charges stem from an investigation into alleged financial misconduct during Bello’s tenure as governor of Kogi State.

The hearing is expected to address the details of these charges and determine the next steps in the legal process.
