How Don Jazzy ‘avoided’ performing with D’banj
IT was all fun at the Eko Hotel, venue of senator Ben Murray-Bruce’s 60th birthday bash.
The show had in attendance top people in the society and several music stars including the Mavin crew led by Don Jazzy/ Don Jazzy’s estranged friend of the defunct MoHitz Records, Dbanj, was also there, among others. After the likes of Tuface Idibia,
Timaya, MI, Wizkid, Koredo Bello, Reekado Bank among many others had performed, it was D’banj’s turn to do his thing. He performed and got the audience elated with his unique performance. His performance got to the climax when he went to the crowd to bring out the birthday boy. Ben Bruce got to the stage, collected the microphone from D’banj and started calling out to Don Jazzy to join them on the stage. Don Jazzy was nowhere to be found. Dbanj also rushed to the crowd to fetch his erstwhile friend, Don Jazzy, but he had disappeared. Meanwhile one of the wishes of the birthday boy for the night was for the duo (Don Jazzy and D’banj) to perform together on one stage. He made D’banj to promise he would do, once more, an award winning duet with Don Jazzy, just to tell the world no more war. But Don Jazzy had left the bash. At this point, D’banj said:
” Uncle Ben, what you are asking me to do, I have done already. As I was coming up the stage, I saw him sitting over there and I told him I will call him on stage for a joint performance, but now he has run away. If you want us to do a duet, talk to Don Jazzy; it’s in his hands because if he agrees tomorrow, we will do it next tomorrow. I am ready anytime”. However, when Don Jazzy noticed Twitter was on his case, insinuating he left the birthday party venue so as not to perform jointly with D’banj, he tweeted that it was just a mere coincident.
