NCC wins Africa Telecom Regulator, canvasses for poverty eradication using telecom
THE Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) in Ghana received the 2016 “Africa Telecom Regulator of the Year Award” at the Africa Information Technology and Telecom Awards.
The Director of Public Affairs at the commission, Mr. Tony Ojobo, who received the award on behalf of the Executive Vice Chairman of the NCC, Prof. Umar Garba Danbatta said the award is only a motivation for the commission to do more.
“To whom much is given, much is also expected. While we are happy to be recognized as doing well, this is also an opportunity for us to do more in protecting the subscribers as well as the service providers,” an elated Ojobo said.
Meanwhile, earlier in his submission as a lead panelist at the event, with the theme ‘Connecting West Africa for Growth’, Ojobo spoke on the importance of ICT towards poverty eradication in developing Nations.

He said there is a need for an enabling environment where the private sector can operate with a free flow of information and ultimately eradicate poverty.
“ICT is important towards poverty eradication in developing Nations and that successful, but using ICT to reduce poverty can only be achieved if there is an enabling environment where the private sector can operate with a free flow of information,” he stressed.
