ECOWAS urges dialogue, seeks safety of its citizens in Ukraine war

The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) on Sunday urged parties to the war in Ukraine to end hostilities and embrace dialogue so as to put an end to destruction in the country. The West African sub-regional body condemned the invasion of Ukraine by Russia. Which it noted caused the war in Ukraine.

ECOWAS in a communique on Sunday sought the safety of citizens of all ECOWAS member-states in Ukraine.

The communique reads: “The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) is following with great concern the military invasion of the Republic of Ukraine by Russia which has led to human casualties, particularly among civilians.

“ECOWAS strongly condemns this action and calls for both parties to stop the
fighting and to use dialogue to solve their differences in the interest of peace
in this region.

“ECOWAS calls on all parties to ensure the safety of the citizens of all its member states living in Ukraine.”
