Delta Govt reiterates commitment to improving teaching in public schools
Mrs Rose Ezewu, Delta Commissioner for Secondary Education, says the state government is committed to improving the quality of teaching in public schools.
Ezewu spoke at the opening of a meeting of the West African Examination Council (WAEC) and the State Examination Committee on Wednesday in Asaba.
She said the Ifeanyi Okowa-led government would continue to take steps toward improving the teaching and learning environment in the interest of the students.
The commissioner stated that the state government was open to ideas on how to make the education sector more productive.
Ezewu said the meeting was to review the conduct of the last West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) in the state.
”We need to appraise the performance of candidates from the state. We also need to recommend ways to conduct more credible examinations in the future,” she said.
She said that the ministry had inaugurated an examination ethics and disciplinary committee to ensure sanity during examinations.
”Their mandate is to examine reported cases of involvement in malpractices against any principal, supervisor and teacher,” she said.
Ezewu commended WAEC for a successful conduct of the May/June 2022 examination and the prompt release of the results.
Also speaking, Mr Sunday Egomagwuna, Director, Examination and Standard, described the meeting as a good opportunity to correct the wrongs of the past.
”It is important to make meaningful inputs as we progress. We owe the society a duty to conduct credible examinations,” he said.
