Judicial workers suspend strike, set to resume work Wednesday

The Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN) has announced the suspension of its nationwide strike, directing all its members to resume work on Wednesday, June 4, 2025.

This decision came after extensive deliberations and meetings held on Tuesday between the union’s leadership and representatives of the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun.

A communique jointly signed by JUSUN’s National Vice President and ten other union leaders confirmed the resolution to end the industrial action. The communique stated that the decision was reached after discussions addressing the core grievances that led to the strike.

Key stakeholders, including the CJN, the Minister of Labour and Employment, Muhammad Dingyadi, and the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), were reportedly urged to intervene in resolving the dispute.

As part of the agreement, the strike was suspended to facilitate engagement with the Federal Government for the release of judiciary funds within a month.

JUSUN emphasized that once these funds are released, its demands—including the implementation of the new ₦70,000 minimum wage and arrears, a 25/35% salary increase, and a five-month wage award—would be immediately fulfilled.

Beyond the National Vice President, signatories to the communique included the National Assistant Financial Secretary and chairpersons of JUSUN chapters from various key judicial bodies: the Federal Judicial Service Commission (FJSC), Court of Appeal, Federal High Court, National Industrial Court, National Judicial Institute, FCT High Court, FCT Sharia Court, FCT Customary Court, and the FCT Judicial Service Commission.
