Utomi, Soludo, Gana, Maku, others will work for this guy in “Biafra” republic declared Aug 1
After declaring Biafra an independent state August 1, the leader of the Biafra Zionist Federation has appointed as ministers and ambassadors the finest skulls across the southeast and other states annexed.
Benjamin Onwuka declared himself the ‘Interim President’ of the new nation at a press briefing at the Enugu secretariat of the Nigerian Union of Journalists on Monday.
Journalists were amused by the seriocomic, but Onwuka kept a straight face, warning “this is no laughing matter”.
The leader of this rival Biafran movement could be a serious character, going by his antecedent.
In 2014, he broke into the Enugu Radio studio to announce Biafran secession. He was arrested and charged with treason.
His new move, he said, has the backing of the U.S. for his interim government.
No vice-president for now, but already in place is a cabinet full of professors and technocrats known for their sympathies for a Biafra republic.
Among those Onwuka named are Prof. Pat Utomi, as foreign minister; CBN’s former governor, Prof Charles Soludo as governor of the Central Bank of Biafra; Arunma Oteh is finance minister.
Ohaneze Ndigbo’s President-General Nnia Nwodo is the ambassador of the Republic of Biafra to the United States while former Information Minister Prof. Jerry Gana, from Niger State, is transport minister.
Labaran Maku, a former minister from Nasarawa, has been named as the minister of aviation. And for power, Barth Nnaji will come back to handle his former portfolio.
Others were drawn from Plateau, Edo, and other states.
The BZF is one of the many separatist groups springing up in the southeast, though te loudest has been Nnadi Kanu’s IPOB.
