Zambian Aaron eyes 2017 tour championship title

Zambian Aaron Simfukwe holds a 5-shot lead heading into the final day of the 2017 tour championship recently at IBB International Golf and Country Club in Abuja.

Gift Willy scored 5 over par 77 and maintains his second position after 56 holes, while defending champion Vincent Torgah, who tied for second position, has moved closer to the lead.

The Ghanian played the best round of the day course par with 3 birdies in the front nine National Daily gathered.

Nigerian Kingley Oparaku has moved up from 7th to 4th position in the leaderboard, followed by Michel Boula Boula and Visitor Mapwanya.

The prize-giving ceremony will take place at the West Africa Golf Tour Pavilion at IBB International Golf and Country Club, National Daily learnt.

The Tour Championship, the last tournament of the West Africa Golf Tour 2017 season, has attracted over 40 players from 8 different countries, including Nigeria, Ghana, Senegal, Cameroon, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Gabon and Germany, all competing for $50.000.

The 2017 season commenced last February with the FCT Classic followed by Port Harcourt Classic in April, The Memorare in May, B & E in June, The Nation@57 in September, The Nigeria Masters in October.

It will conclude with the tour championship, crowning also the winner of the 2017 Order of Merit.

At present, Torgah, winner of three tournaments of the West Africa Golf Tour, leads the Order of Merit.

The West Africa Golf Tour was launched in February 2016 with the aim of developing the game of golf in Africa by organising international golf tournaments and introducing golf education programs at schools.
