Brazil coach Dorival Junior has spoken out following his team’s heavy 4-1 defeat to Argentina in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier on Tuesday.

In a match held in Buenos Aires, Argentina delivered a dominant performance, with goals from Julián Álvarez, Enzo Fernández, Alexis Mac Allister, and Giuliano Simeone securing a resounding victory.

Brazil’s sole goal came from a penalty by Neymar.

In his post-match interview, Junior admitted that Brazil’s game plan fell apart from the very beginning of the encounter.

He was quick to recognize Argentina’s superior play and praised the opposition for their deserved victory.

“Our plan for today’s match didn’t work from the first minute. I have to recognize what happened, how our rival outplayed us, and they deservedly got the victory,” Junior said.

The loss leaves Brazil in fourth place in the South American standings with 21 points.

Despite the setback, Junior remains confident that the team will find a way forward in what he described as a “complicated” and “difficult” process.

“This is a significant defeat, and we are in a complicated, difficult process. But I have no doubt that we’ll find a way out,” he added.

Meanwhile, Argentina, who secured their place in the 2026 World Cup after Bolivia’s 0-0 draw with Uruguay earlier on Tuesday, remains at the top of the standings with 31 points from 14 matches.
