The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has launched a Women's Leadership Mentorship Programme aimed at empowering female professionals, nurturing future leaders and promoting gender inclusion within Nigeria's telecommunications and digital sectors. The initiative, unveiled by the Commission, is designed to provide structured mentorship, leadership development and career guidance for women, while strengthening the capacity of female professionals to take on strategic leadership roles across the industry. Speaking at the launch, the Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the NCC, Dr. Aminu Maida, said the programme reflects the Commission's commitment to fostering an inclusive workplace where talent, innovation and merit are encouraged irrespective of gender. He noted that women continue to make significant contributions to the telecommunications industry, adding that creating opportunities for mentorship and professional development would help bridge the leadership gap and inspire the next generation of female executives. According to him, the mentorship programme will connect experienced leaders with emerging female professionals, providing participants with practical guidance, leadership coaching and exposure to best practices in management, innovation and policy development. Maida said the initiative aligns with the Commission's broader human capital development strategy and supports national efforts to promote gender equality, diversity and inclusion in both the public and private sectors. He encouraged participants to take full advantage of the opportunity by building meaningful professional relationships, expanding their knowledge and developing the confidence required to excel in leadership positions. The NCC boss also reaffirmed the Commission's commitment to creating an enabling environment that supports professional growth, innovation and equal opportunities for all employees. Participants at the launch described the mentorship programme as a timely initiative that would help equip women with the skills, networks and confidence needed to navigate leadership challenges and contribute more effectively to the growth of Nigeria's digital economy. Stakeholders noted that beyond career advancement, the programme is expected to strengthen institutional capacity, encourage knowledge transfer and promote a more inclusive leadership culture within the telecommunications sector.
