FUOYE SUG elections rocked by allegations of manipulation

Students of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), Ekiti State, are up in arms, accusing the institution’s management of manipulating the recently concluded Student Union Government (SUG) elections, held on May 24, 2025.

In separate interviews with on Monday and Tuesday, numerous students voiced their profound disappointment, alleging that the university’s administration and its ICT team actively interfered with the electoral process.

The purported aim, according to students, was to favor certain candidates perceived to be loyal to the school authorities.

Student Union Government (SUG) elections, citing unexplained delays, extensions, and system failures that allegedly favored candidates loyal to the administration.

One student, who identified himself as Ajayi, claimed that the electoral guidelines established by the committee were openly disregarded.

He highlighted significant delays and unexplained extensions in the voting timeline as primary examples of this alleged interference.

“The SUG  election was scheduled to run from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., but it didn’t begin until 12:30 p.m. due to technical issues,” Ajayi stated. “By 5:00 p.m., when our presidential candidate was leading, they announced an extension without providing any reason.

Then they extended it again between 6:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. At that point, we couldn’t monitor results anymore.

The site began showing ‘Error 504’.”

Ajayi further alleged that despite efforts to access the portal using VPNs, the system remained inaccessible, casting significant doubt on the integrity of the final vote tally.

Another student, Ola, corroborated these claims, directly accusing the university’s ICT team and management of colluding to undermine the integrity of the student elections.

The university management has yet to release an official statement regarding these serious allegations
