Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has re-emphasized his unwavering commitment to fostering peace and unity among all residents, irrespective of their political affiliations.
The Governor, who recently transitioned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), affirmed this on Wednesday during the monthly covenant service at the Banquet Hall of Government House, Uyo.
Governor Umo Eno addressed the people of Akwa Ibom State, reassuring them that his primary focus remains on governance and delivering development to the state.
His statement comes after his recent widely reported defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), on whose platform he was elected, to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
This move, which occurred in early June 2025, has been described by the Governor as a strategic decision to align the state with the federal government for enhanced development.
“Let me take this opportunity to thank the people of Akwa Ibom for the support given to us so far, especially during our recent movement to the APC, without record of any sad occurrence. We are very grateful to God and to you. We have moved from politics, and we are now back to governance,” Governor Eno stated. He indicated that major infrastructure projects are set to commence, announcing, “Work has started again. Please, let us get back to work. Tomorrow, we are flagging off road constructions, and within the month, we will be inaugurating many others.”
In a move aimed at broad-based empowerment, Governor Eno also revealed plans for an extensive sensitization program targeting women across the state’s 31 Local Government Areas (LGAs).
He explained that this initiative would transcend political divides, bringing women together through cooperatives and seminars. “We will sensitize our women across party lines, bringing them together through cooperatives and seminars,” he affirmed.
This program will integrate approximately 60 “Nigerian-for-women projects,” which are co-funded by the Akwa Ibom State Government and the World Bank, further strengthening economic opportunities for women at the grassroots level.
