IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu has made it clear he is ready to meet his bail conditions in 48 hours, contrary to media reports that he spurned the bail granted him on Tuesday by the Abuja Division of the Federal High Court.
His lawyer Ifeanyi Ejiofor confirmed Kanu has never rejected Justice Binta Nyako’s decision to grant his client bail though many believe the bail conditions are stringent.
The pan-Igbo group, Ohaneze, said with those conditions, it was as if the court granted the separatist leader no bail at all.
Among the conditions are three sureties, one of whom must be a Judaist since Kanu said hos religion is Judaism.
Kanu was granted bail on health grounds with 12 conditions attached to the bail.
While the request for bail was made by Kanu and three others suspects charged with terrorism and treason, only Kanu had hIs request granted. They including David Nwawuisi, Benjamin Madubugwu and Chidiebere Onwudiwe.
Ejiofor said his client will meet the conditions within 48 hours but warned that any attempt by government to afterward deny his client bail would be resisted.
“ In fact, it will bring to an end this trial. Because we will opt out. We will not allow him to continue with the trial,” he told Premium Times.
The court also ordered that Kanu should be given his wedding ring and his eye glasses was immediately complied with by the authorities on Tuesday.
Kanu has been granted bail several times, but the federal government decided to keep him in detention—just as it dies ex-NSA Sambo Dasuki.
