UK prime minister Starmer congratulates President-Elect Donald Trump ahead of inauguration

UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer has extended his congratulations to U.S. President-elect Donald Trump ahead of his inauguration, reaffirming that the special relationship between the two nations “will continue to flourish for years to come.”

Trump is set to be sworn in for his second term as U.S. president on Monday, eight years after first taking office. In his message, Starmer highlighted the long-standing “depth of friendship” between the U.S. and the UK, expressing commitment to continued collaboration between the two countries to ensure mutual success.

The prime minister stated, “For centuries, the relationship between our two nations has been one of collaboration, cooperation, and enduring partnership.

It is a uniquely close bond. Together, we have defended the world from tyranny and worked towards our mutual security and prosperity.”

Ahead of the inauguration, Trump rallied his supporters, declaring that they had “built a new American majority that will lead our country to success for generations to come.”

Meanwhile, UK political figures, including Nigel Farage, have gathered in Washington for the ceremonial events.

Starmer and Trump first met in September at Trump Tower in New York, where the UK leader emphasized the importance of personal relations in international diplomacy.

On Sunday, Starmer reiterated his commitment to strengthening the transatlantic relationship, stating, “We will continue to build upon the unshakeable foundations of our historic alliance as we tackle together the global challenges we face.”
