Road accident kills than HIV, Ebola, says Mimiko
From CHRISTIANA EKPA, Lokoja
THE Ondo State Governor, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, has identified road traffic accidents across the country as a major killer deadlier than cancer, HIV, Malaria and Ebola put together.
Mimiko, who stated this in Lokoja during the commissioning of N1.6 billion Lokoja Mega Terminal, said until government at all levels took the issue of transportation services serious, the problem would continue to hunt the country.
According to him, leaders can only be adjudged to be successful when they are able to provide projects that touch the lives of the people positively.
Mimiko who described the Lokoja mega terminal project as the best in West African said “this project is not only a project, but a project built out of concern for the people of the state and the country at large”
He praised the state governor, Capt. Idris Wada for early completion of the project in the face of paucity of fund, commending the governor for prudent management of resources in the state.
In his address, Wada said the construction of the Lokoja Mega terminal was conceived to eliminate the incessant traffic logjam and to take Kogi from economic doldrums.
He stressed that the project was capable of generating enormous revenue for the state.
“This project is in fulfilment of our strategic plan for Kogi state in the area of transportation services. This project will provide a conducive environment for travellers, create employment and generate revenue for the state.
Attributing project failure to poor management, Wada noted that the terminal would be concessioned to private sector for prudent management.
The governor hinted that the Lokoja mega project consisted of facilities such as Police post, ATM cash point, intercity bus park, drop-off parking, luxurious bus park, washing bay and 10 Kogi express buses for inter-state transport services.
