2023 Presidency: Doyin Okupe tackles S’East elder, Chief Dan Ulasi over comments on Peter Obi
With the 2023 general elections fast approaching, Labour Party stakeholder, Dr. Doyin Okupe has come out to tackle Igbo elder, Dan Ulasi over his recent comments against the presidential candidacy of former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi.
Recall that four days ago, former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chairman in Anambra State, Dan Ulasi was a guest on AIT NEWS to discuss the upcoming elections and the chances of the frontrunners in the race for the country’s topmost political office, the presidency.
Speaking during the interview, Ulasi dismissed the chances of the Labour Party flag bearer, Peter Obi emerging victorious at the polls next year, insisting that a vote for the former governor will be detrimental to Igbos all over the country.
“If he (Obi) has nothing to hide, why is he doing this alone? I have not seen one single prominent Igbo man that has joined him in visiting any state. And he is only visiting PDP governors because I haven’t seen him with any APC governor. So, what I am saying is that if any vote given to him is not managed to victory, it will have a seriously detrimental effect on Igbos everywhere in this country, especially those trading in the Alaba International market and other markets in Lagos,” he said
Quite interestingly, the comments made by the PDP chieftain have drawn the attention of Labour Party stalwart, Dr. Doyin Okupe.
Taking to his verified Twitter handle a few minutes ago, Dr. Okupe stated that Chief Ulasi’s claim that Igbo politicians were staying away from Obi was a reflection of his prejudiced thoughts toward the Labour Party candidate.
He wrote; “His point that no notable Igbo man is following Obi about is a reflection of Ulasi’s prejudiced thoughts.
The fact is that Igbo elites and elders deliberately keep a public distance from Peter Obi because of the general bias of many in Nigeria against Igbos.”
