Commissioner seeks Kano residents’ support for monthly sanitation
KANO State Government has called on residents of the state to support the state’s monthly sanitation exercise.
The Commissioner for Environment in the state, Dr Ali Makoda, made the call on Saturday after the committee on environmental tax force inspected some areas in the state.
According to the commissioner, the call is necessary in order to keep the state clean and have a healthy environment.
Makoda expressed concern over the level of refuse dumps in some residential areas.
He said that some of the refuse dump sites could not be easily accessed due to their closeness to residential houses.
The commissioner added that the government would do everything possible to clear the refuse.
He noted that if refuse dump sites were to be cleared, some houses must be affected to give easy access to the workers.
Makoda, however, said that government would meet with the community leaders in the affected areas to resolve the access problem.
He added that the ministry had received series of complaints over the issue of refuse dumps in the state.
The commissioner noted that lack of access to refuse dump sites was a major challenge to the committee.
He said that government would look into the issue of compensation to the people who would be affected by the clearing exercise.
He urged parents to ensure their children’s’ participation in the sanitation exercise instead of roaming the roads during the exercise.
