Group mulls petitioning NAICOM, others over NEM INSURANCE PLC non-payment of claim
A Non -Governmental Organization Zhero Tolerance for Social Immoralities-Africa (ZHETSI-AFRICA) has taken a swipe at the NEM Insurance PLC over an alleged refusal to pay one of its clients claim.
The group in a statement issued by its Director Special Project Mallam Abdullahi Shinkafi faulted the insurance company for refusing to settle the claims of a client, who till the point of demand for insurance premium had never defaulted but only fulfilled all necessary requirements to facilitate the payment.
ZHETSI-AFRICA added that the said client had procured a 12 Million Naira automobile insurance policy from Nem Insurance Plc for his vehicle in the event of any loss.
“It’s most unfortunate that this client was being pressured by one of the staff of Nem Insurance Plc to bribe the Loss Adjuster engaged by them to ascertain the veracity of his claims.
“The client’s vehicle a Toyota Avalon Car had an accident that involved his private driver Mr. Olabimtan Shina but Nem Insurance rather than fulfilling it’s obligation of insurance policy resorted to needless harassment and vilification of the driver by security agencies.
“Owing to the seemly obstinate mien of the Nem Insurance Plc not to pay the owner of the vehicle , we at ZHETSI-AFRICA have resolved to petition the following agencies NAICOM, NHRC, FCCPB, and other internationally recognized insurance bodies.
“We are much aware that the anti-people conducts and policies of Nem Insurance Plc if not checked now will only wreck unprecedented havoc on the insurance sector in Nigeria. It’s a serious problem when clients and prospects loose trust in any organization especially the insurance sector in Nigeria,” Shinkafi said.
