Mourinho and Gerrard to battle for Mason Greenwood

Jose Mourinho and Steven Gerrard are set to battle for Mason Greenwood.

National Daily gathers that Greenwood has reportedly attracted transfer interest from Al-Ettifaq and Roma.

It was confirmed on Monday that the striker will leave Old Trafford following the club’s internal investigation into his actions.

The 21-year-old has been suspended by Manchester United since January 2022 after he was arrested and subsequently charged by Manchester Police with attempted rape, controlling behaviour and assault.

All charges against Greenwood were dropped in February but United decided to conduct their own probe and after both the club and player announced that he would depart, CEO Richard Arnold penned an open letter to fans over the issue.

It is likely that the Englishman will join a club overseas to revive his career and according to the Daily Mail, several teams have already contacted United over signing Greenwood.

They claim that clubs in Italy, Turkey and ‘elsewhere’ are keen on a move with Roma boss Mourinho an ‘admirer’ of the player.

The Sun, meanwhile, report that Liverpool legend Gerrard wants to recruit Greenwood at Saudi Arabian side Al-Ettifaq.
