Plateau calls for private sector collaboration to end open defecation

The Plateau State Environmental Protection and Sanitation Agency has called for private-sector collaboration to erect public toilets in public places.

Samuel Dapiya, the Director General of PEPSA, made the call in an interview, on Sunday in Jos.

According to him, it was imperative for the private sector and well-spirited individuals to construct standard toilets in public places, as part of Corporate Social Responsibility.

Dapiya added that this would help curb the prevalence of open defecation in the state, while also complementing government efforts, noting the gesture would also promote the use of toilets and good hygiene practices in the state.

The DG further called for the establishment of more public toilets by private business investors in strategic places in the state, saying that is a good business venture that will generate revenue for both the investor and the state government.

He added, “I enjoin public toilet operators to collaborate with the government to curb the menace of open defecation by establishing toilets inaccessible locations and operating according to the required standard.”
