Federal lawmaker hails Ooni peace, unity move

CHAIRMAN House of Reps Committee on Information and National Orientation, Hon Segun Dokun Odebunmi has commended Oba Adeyeye Eniitan Ogunwusi Ojaja 11, the Ooni of Ife on his peace agenda and bold move towards enhancing the unity and advancement of Yoruba race

Odebunmi, who represents Surulere/Ogo Oluwa Federal constituency, Oyo State, at the National Assembly in a statement, said such move would further strengthen Yoruba as a race that would not only speak with one voice but set the pace for other tribes in peaceful co-existence.

He said: “Yoruba race has been in the front burner in the annals of history of development in Nigeria but the problem of unity which has bedeviled the race is a major factor that is causing serious setback for the race and I am optimistic that with the move by the Ooni, we will move to the next level.

“Oba Adeyeye visits to the prominent Yoruba traditional rulers in the region is highly commendable , it is a signal that the eledumare has answer our prayer and that is why he gave us a young , committed and energetic monarch as the Arole of Oduduwa.

“While calling for cooperation with the Ooni and other leaders who are making move to develop and promote Yoruba culture and tradition, Hon Odebunmi said Yoruba said “our custodians of culture and tradition should not relent in enlightening and passing unto the younger generation the customs and tradition of Yorubaland , we should be conscious of our race , our languages and tradition, they must not fade away”.

Odebunmi advised against overbearing influence of western culture, saying people should not allow their tribes to be affected nor taken over by the foreign cultures and languages.
He argued that dominance of foreign cultures would affect development, intellect and progress.
