Boy, girl, 15, expecting baby in Rivers, group raises alarm
Adata Bio-Briggs, the chairperson of the International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA), Rivers State chapter, has decried the rising rate of teenage pregnancies in the state, citing a case of two 15year-olds.
“On Monday, a girl of 15years called me and said she was pregnant for her 15years old boyfriend,” she said in a post on May 26.
“This story was disheartening but I did the needful, got her to open up to her parents so they can protect and give her all the support she needs
“I’m happy to say she did and her parents and I have discussed the way forward. With so much children indulging in sexual activities and high rise in teenage pregnancies and sexually transmitted diseases.
“Don’t we all think abstinence alone shouldn’t be taught as part of sex education? I think abstinence and the the use of Protection should be taught too.
“On Saturday, I will be speaking on this interesting topic. I’m so sorry it will be in a women alone group but I promise to share more on the topic here.”
