British PM Liz Truss, succumbs to pressures, resigns after six weeks in office

The Prime Minister of Britain Liz Truss, has succumbed to pressures in the country and resigned after six weeks in office.

Truss had encountered revolt from the ruling Conservatives lawmakers which she belongs following her tax cuts, which raised the provocations  among many Members of Parliament.

Truss, speaking in Downing Street, noted that they have agreed to elect a  new prime minister, saying she will remain prime minister until a successor is chosen to serve as Tory leader.

Truss had stated: “We’ve agreed that there will be a leadership election to be completed within the next week,” she said, after senior backbench MP Graham Brady told her the game was up.

“This will ensure that we remain on a path to deliver our fiscal plan and maintain our country’s economic stability and national security.

“I will remain as prime minister until a successor has been chosen.”
