Hamas slams Biden’s remarks as “Green Light” for continued Israeli Actions
Hamas condemned U.S. President Joe Biden’s recent statements suggesting that the militant group was backing away from a Gaza truce deal, accusing him of providing a “green light” for Israel to escalate its military actions.
In a statement issued Tuesday, Hamas described Biden’s remarks as “misleading” and not reflective of the group’s position, which it claims is focused on reaching a ceasefire agreement.
Hamas group criticized Biden’s comments, made as he prepared to leave Chicago after a speech to the Democratic National Convention, as an endorsement of Israel’s continued operations against Gaza civilians.
The statement came amid ongoing U.S. diplomatic efforts to address the conflict.
Secretary of State Antony Blinken was in Egypt on Tuesday for talks on a Gaza ceasefire.
Blinken, who met with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Jerusalem on Monday, will also visit Qatar, which, along with Egypt, is facilitating negotiations for a truce in the nearly ten-month-long conflict.

Hamas accused Biden’s comments of reflecting an “American bias” towards Israel and complicity in what it termed a “war of extermination” against Gaza civilians.
The group reaffirmed its commitment to a ceasefire framework initially proposed by Biden on May 31, which it claimed Israel had put forward.
Hamas criticized recent U.S. adjustments to the ceasefire plan, describing them as undermining the original proposal and accusing Washington of yielding to Netanyahu’s demands.
The group urged the U.S. administration to correct its perceived bias and called on mediators to enforce acceptance of the original ceasefire framework by Israel.
