Court affirms Mohammed Abacha PDP governorship candidate in Kano
A Federal High Court in Kano, on Thursday, upheld Mohammed Abacha as the duly nominated governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the 2023 elections in Kano State.
The presiding judge of the Federal High, Kano, Justice A.M. Liman, in a judgment delivered on Thursday night, annulled the PDP governorship primary in Kano that produced Sadik Wali, declaring it invalid.
The judge, accordingly, ordered that Abacha’s name be listed by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the 2023 governorship election in Kano.
Abacha had approached the court, seeking that the court declare him winner of the primary lawfully conducted by the PDP and certified by INEC in Kano. He argued that based on the Electoral Act 2022, he scored the highest number of total votes in the PDP primary election held on May 25.
The court granted all the relief sought.
At the time of this report, it was not known if there will be an appeal.
