Court remands Police Officer over alleged rape, assault

Chief Magistrate Afolashade Botoku of of Ebute-Metta Chief Magistrate’s Court, Lagos, on Friday, ordered that a police officer, Stephen Aji, be remanded in prisons custody, over alleged rape.
Chief Magistrate Botoku gave the order following the arraignment of the accused by policemen of the Railway Command of Nigeria Police.
The 29 years old Aji, was arraigned before court, for allegedly having forceful sexual intercourse with a 26-year-old woman and assaulting her.
The prosecutor, Inspector Moses Uademevbo, informed the court that the accused committed the offences on Jan.11, at Woodward Police Barracks, Railway Compound, Ebute Meta.
However, the accused pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Consequently, Chief Magistrate Folashade Botoku ordered the remand of the accused and has adjourned the matter to February 18, for ruling on the bail application.
It was gathered that Aji, a former Police orderly to the Commissioner of Police, Railway division, had assaulted one Omoyemi Fayemi, 26, by beating her to a stupor.
It was also learnt that the complainant had demanded for her fees after engaging in sexual intercourse with her, and in anger the accused had assaulted her causing her injuries on her waist, neck and leg.
The prosecutor said that the offences contravened and punishable under Sections 172(a) and 258 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2011
