Dariye, ex-con just pardoned, gets ticket for Senate seat, to work with Obi
Plateau former Gov. Joshua Dariye whom President Muhammadu Buhari just pardoned and released from Kuje prison after many of his 10-year jail time, has begun race for the Senate.
He will soon declare interest to contest the Plateau Central senatorial seat on the platform of the Labour Party (LP).
The party presidential flagbearer Peter Obi has thus got a political heavyweight from the northcentral to boost the LP chances in the general election.
Dariye, jailed for N1.2 bn fraud, and his colleague from Taraba, former Gov. Jolly Nyame, and three others were released on Monday.
According to a report by the Daily Trust, the Plateau State chapter of LP has concluded arrangements to receive the former Plateau governor from Abuja to pick the party’s senatorial form.
He was in the PDP during his tenure as governor before he defected to the APC in 2016, in an effort to swing his trial back then.
President Muhammadu Buhari, however, did not intervene.
Dariye contested earlier on the LP platform in 2011.
