FGN pledges to deepen bilateral ties with Kuwait
The collaboration will not only strengthen our trade relations but also allow for meaningful exchanges that will benefit both countries in the long run
The Federal Government has expressed its commitment to deepening bilateral trade relations between Nigeria and Kuwait.
This was revealed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, during his working visit to Kuwait, aimed at boosting trade and investment ties between the two nations.
In a statement issued on Wednesday by his Special Assistant on Media and Communications Strategy, Alkasim Abdulkadir, Tuggar highlighted that the visit, which will run from February 5 to 8, 2025, is the first time a Nigerian foreign minister has visited Kuwait since the two countries established diplomatic relations on January 31, 1970.
“The visit is a historic milestone in the diplomatic relations between Nigeria and Kuwait,” Tuggar said. “It aims to foster stronger trade and agricultural cooperation, paving the way for more robust bilateral engagement.”
Throughout the visit, Tuggar is scheduled to engage in strategic discussions with his Kuwaiti counterpart, Ambassador Abdullah Al-Yahya, and sign a series of Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs). These agreements will focus on enhancing diplomatic, economic, and agricultural cooperation between the two countries.
The high-level visit will also include a dialogue with Kuwait’s Prime Minister, Sheikh Ahmed Al-Sabah, a courtesy call to Sheikh Mishal Al-Sabah, the Amir of Kuwait, and the formalization of agreements aimed at deepening bilateral cooperation.
One of the key outcomes will be the establishment of a joint commission for mutual cooperation and a framework for regular diplomatic consultations between the foreign ministries of both countries.

Additional agreements are expected to focus on capacity building, diplomatic expertise exchange, economic and trade collaboration, investment opportunities, and advancements in science and technology.
The visit will also see Tuggar meet with Kuwait’s Minister of Petroleum, Tariq Al-Roumi, and Waleed Al-Bahar, Director-General of the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFAED).
A business lunch hosted by Kuwaiti authorities, featuring leading business figures and investors, will provide further opportunities to explore potential areas of collaboration.
“This visit is an important step towards strengthening Nigeria’s diplomatic, economic, and investment ties with Kuwait,” Tuggar concluded. “We expect it to open new avenues for cooperation across various sectors and enhance the mutual benefits for both countries.”
