Gov denies report on man turning two children to tubers of yam
Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State on Friday refuted a report that a man turned two children into tubers of yam in Ibadan, the state capital. The governor described the news report as a mere figment of imagination.
The Commissioner for Education, AdulRahman Abdu-Raheem, disputing the report, disclosed that investigations by the state government revealed that “the suspect was just a victim of circumstance.”
The Commissioner after visiting the school the children were said to be ‘charmed’, explained that there was no record of any missing students in the school.
According to Abdu-Raheem, “investigations have been carried out, and it showed that the victim was mentally deranged.”
He narrated that the findings showed that the accused was sent on an errand to deliver the contents (two tubers of yam and a pack of diapers) in his bag. Abdu-Raheem did not, however, explain how the two children came into the story.
The Commissioner enjoined parents and residents to go about their normal businesses and ignore the rumour, assuring them of adequate protection for school children in the state.
