Nigeria’s automotive industry recorded a major milestone on Wednesday as Soueast officially debuted in the country through the Kewalram Chanrai Group, marking what stakeholders described as a strategic expansion in the nation’s competitive mobility market.

The launch ceremony, held in Lagos, featured a media unveiling followed by an extensive test drive of the brand’s Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) lineup along the scenic Coastal Highway.

The event drew auto dealers, industry analysts, motoring journalists, and enthusiasts, all given the opportunity to evaluate the vehicles under real traffic and road conditions.

Speaking at the event, Chief Operating Officer, Mobility Division of Kewalram Chanrai Group, Mr. Anil Sahgal, said the decision to introduce Soueast into Nigeria reflects shifting consumer expectations and growing sophistication among buyers.

“For over 165 years, Kewalram Chanrai Group’s reputation has been built on trust delivered through consistency,” Sahgal stated. “Our decision to bring Soueast into Nigeria is deliberate. Today’s Nigerian customer is more informed and focused on long-term value. There is a growing demand for vehicles that combine modern design, safety, technology, durability, and affordability — and Soueast fits precisely into this space.”

He emphasized that the rollout goes beyond simply introducing a new automotive badge, stressing that the group has established a comprehensive support system to sustain the brand’s operations in Nigeria.

According to him, this includes a structured dealership network, strengthened after-sales support, trained technical personnel, and a long-term investment strategy designed to ensure reliability and customer confidence.

Sahgal explained that the SUVs unveiled at the launch were engineered with Nigeria’s unique driving environment in mind. He noted that key considerations include road durability, fuel efficiency, maintenance costs, and overall cost of ownership — critical factors influencing purchasing decisions in the local market.

“This is not just a product launch; it is the beginning of a long-term commitment to a market that demands resilience, value, and consistency,” he said. “Our vehicles are built on three pillars — product integrity, adaptability, and value sustainability.”

In a move expected to strengthen local industry participation, Sahgal disclosed that plans are underway to commence local assembly of the vehicles by the third quarter of 2026.

The announcement underscores the group’s intention to deepen its footprint in Nigeria while contributing to employment generation and industrial capacity development.

The highlight of the launch was the hands-on test drive session along the Coastal Road, where participants assessed the performance, comfort, handling, and technological features of the Soueast SUV range in everyday driving conditions. Industry observers described the exercise as a confidence-building strategy, allowing potential partners and media representatives to directly experience the brand’s capabilities.

With the entry of Soueast, Nigeria’s automotive market is poised for heightened competition, particularly in the SUV segment, as consumers continue to seek vehicles that balance affordability with innovation and durability.
