Lagos: GRV restates interest to contest 2027 general elections

The Labour Party’s governorship candidate in Lagos state during the 2023 general elections Mr. Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour (GRV) has indicated interest in jostling for the office again come 2027, citing lack of empathy and inclusiveness in the APC led government as his propelling force.

In a statement signed by Comrade Adewole Ireti GRV’s spokesperson on Tuesday, he restates his principal’s resolve to run an inclusive government that intends to deepen participatory democracy and re-establish fairness.

“As the 2027 election season gradually begins to stir political interest across Lagos, the return of Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour (GRV) to the frontline of governance discourse comes with renewed hope for inclusive leadership.

“Known for his progressive ideals and youth-driven approach, Gbadebo Rhodes Vivour (GRV) is once again poised to challenge the status quo, championing a governance model that carries every Lagosian along, regardless of tribe, religion, or class.

“His comeback isn’t just a political ambition, it is a mission to deepen participatory democracy, rebuild trust, and re-establish fairness in the heart of Nigeria’s most populous state.”

According to Comrade Ireti GRV’s style of governance will be tailored along a broad-based consultative model that will aggregate people’s need and interest state-wide.

“In a move reminiscent of the consultative approach of Sir John Macpherson, the former Governor-General of Nigeria in 1951, who championed broad-based involvement in governance, GRV is set to embark on a state-wide consultation.

“This effort will engage communities from the grassroots to the elite, ensuring that policies reflect the real needs of the people.

“GRV believes that leadership is not about imposing ideas from the top but building consensus and solutions through dialogue and mutual respect.

“His method stands in contrast to the current leadership style in Lagos, which he critiques for its perceived lack of empathy and inclusivity.

“Gbadebo Rhodes Vivour (GRV) has also voiced strong concerns over the APC-led government’s treatment of certain ethnic communities, especially in relation to the demolition of markets without providing viable alternatives.

“He considers such actions both inhumane and economically damaging. For him, governance should protect livelihoods, not endanger them.
