LP reduces cost of governorship nomination form from N25m to N15m
The Labour Party (LP), after wide consultations, reduced the fee for nomination forms for aspirants for the party’s governorship tickets for the elections in Bayelsa, Imo, and Kogi states on November 11, from N25 million to N15 million.
The Spokesperson for the Obi-Datti Presidential Campaign Council (PCC), Kenneth Okonkwo, had on Monday, protested that the N25 million fee for governorship nomination form is too costly. Citing Article 8(h) of the LP constitution, Okonwko argued that the party should endeavour “to broaden participation in governance at all levels by ensuring that the costs of the electoral process do not constitute hindrance to any Nigerian”.
Okonkwo on Wednesday disclosed that the Labour Party has considered the suggestions of Nigerians that a party of the working-class should not make the cost of its governorship nomination forms so high, beyond N15 million, in order not to discourage aspirants.
Okonkwo, accordingly, in a tweet on his official twitter handle wrote: Kenneth Okonkwo @realkenokonkwo “After due consultation with all the relevant stakeholders in the Party, and taking into consideration the overwhelming interest of Nigerians in our Party, and the necessity to birth a new Nigeria, and in view of the prevailing high cost of things in Nigeria, which…
“In line with our avowed disposition to carry Nigerians along in what we do, the Party has decided to review the cost of nomination forms downwards for all positions taking into consideration the suggested amount of N15m for the post of Governor.
“We must move together to salvage our country from incompetent and dishonest leadership of the old order.”
