LSSC Chairman claims remodeled Agege Stadium will attract international competition
The Chairman, Lagos State Sports Commission (LSSC), Sola Aiyepeku says the re-modeled Soccer Temple, Agege Stadium will attract more international competitions.
Aiyepeku said this in an interview on Thursday in Lagos.
The stadium is one of the two venues to host the Aisha Buhari Cup, a six-nation women invitational championship beginning on Sept. 15.
The second center is Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan.
Aiyepeku said that the state was ready for the championship, and all the facilities had been secured for the tournament.
He said that the state had also re-opened two of its re-modeled and refurbished stadia.
“We have made our intentions known to the country that we want to bring events to Lagos. We, as the host of the first Aisha Buhari Cup, want successful competitions.
“Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu is excited about the hosting by Lagos and he regularly asks for updates on the facilities to be used.
“More than this, we want our facilities to be in top-notch and attain the best standard to host many international competitions.
“We have fixed the issue of flooding and other facilities have been put in place, by the time we finish, we will lay a brand new FIFA latest hybrid turf,” he assured.
Aiyepeku noted that the investment made by the state government on the stadia and other sporting facilities across the state was a deliberate move to position the state for bigger international games.
“We are doing all these remodeling and refurbishing so that we will be able to host bigger international games in our stadia.
“At Onikan, we are working hard to get all the facilities ready because the teams will be arriving on Sunday so we are super ready for the game.
“Our Sports loving governor is open to hosting the tournament because he knows the socio-economic values of such competition to the state, he said.
