Man, 39, face trial for rape of 32-year-old woman in Lagos.
One Usman Yahaya, 39, on Thursday, appeared before a Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State for allegedly having unlawful carnal knowledge of a 32-year-old woman.
Yahaya, whose address was not provided, pleaded not guilty to the three-count charge of unlawful penetration, attempted rape and unlawful sexual assault.
The Police prosecutor, Insp Ayodele Adeosun, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on Sept. 18, at 4:30 p.m. at Gusa Compound, Posukoh Quarters, Badagry, Lagos.
The prosecutor said that the defendant allegedly had unlawful carnal knowledge of a 32-year-old woman without her consent.
The offences, Adeosun said, contravened Sections 261, 262 and 263 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015,” he said.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr Patrick Adekomaiya, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500, 000 with two responsible sureties in like sum.
He said one of the sureties should be a community leader with evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
The chief magistrate adjourned the case until Nov. 6, for mention.
