Minister of Interior hints of FG deploying modern technologies to secure Nigeria’s border
The Federal Government will deploy modern technologies to secure Nigeria’s borders, Minister of Interior, Lt.-Gen. Abdulrahman Dambazau (rtd), has said.
The minister made the statement on Monday when he visited Illela border post in Sokoto State.
“We will deploy intelligence, modern tools and technologies to detect and analyse some of the movements along the nation’s borders.
“Nigeria is committed to protecting and securing the lives and property of all Nigerians including those at the border communities and those in the hinterland.
“The Federal Government is also committed to stop smuggling of arms, drugs and human trafficking,’’ he said.
Dambazau promised that he would do everything `humanly possible’ to provide the welfare needs of the officers and men of the various security agencies operating at the borders.
He said that `plausible measures’ would be taken by the government to improve the office and residential accommodation of security personnel at the borders.
The minister stressed the need for peaceful co-existence between residents of border communities and their neighbours.
He urged officers and men of the various security agencies at the borders to always be on red alert.
“This is very necessary, more so now that a lot of terrorist activities were being perpetrated along our borders,’’ he said.
