NNPC Ltd. disclaims fake financial scheme
NNPC Ltd. has warned the perpetrators to cease their fraudulent actions or face legal consequence.
The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd.) has vehemently disowned a fake AI-generated video circulating on social media, which features a cloned voice of its Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO), Mr. Bayo Ojulari.
The fraudulent video promotes a fictitious poverty alleviation investment scheme, misleading the public.
The Chief Corporate Communications Officer, NNPC Ltd., Olufemi Soneye, issued a statement on Thursday, May 29, 2025, clarifying unequivocally that the company has no such investment initiative or poverty alleviation program as advertised in the video.
Soneye urged the public to completely disregard the deceptive video, which was originally shared by a Facebook account named “Mensageiro de Cristo.”

The NNPC Ltd. emphasized that this is a clear case of digital manipulation aimed at defrauding unsuspecting individuals.
The company has issued a stern warning to the perpetrators behind this fraudulent video, demanding that they cease their illicit activities immediately or face severe legal consequences in accordance with the law.
This incident highlights the growing threat of AI-generated misinformation and deepfakes being used for criminal purposes.
