Philanthropist donates food items to 300 widows in Ondo
The Publisher of Hero Magazine International, Dr. Sunday Akinbiola, on Wednesday donated food items worth millions of naira to over 300 widows in Irele, Ondo State.
The philanthropist donated 10kg bags of rice which were distributed to each of the widows from the 10 wards in Irele Local Government Area and part of Okitipupa Local Government Area.
He said the gesture was an effort to give back to the society, succour and put smiles on the faces of the less privileged during the festive season.
Akinbiola, also founder of Hero Foundation, said that the foundation has been empowering widows and youths in the society for the past 12 years and promised to sustain the programne.
“The distribution of these bags of rice is borne out of the need to express love to our people, particularly widows and the physically challenged persons in seasons like this.
“It is our modest contribution to our immediate environment and a way of giving back to the society.
“We intend to do more in due course to foster love among our people,’’ he assured.
A beneficiary, Mrs, Jumoke Akinduro, expressed happiness for the food items she received; saying she never expected such a gift.
“I am very happy today and I thank God for using our son to bless us,” she said.
Mrs Comfort Kehinde, while expressing her appreciation, said that there was nothing to give her children during the festive period if not for the divine intervention.
“I do not have any food to give my children if not for the divine intervention of God through our son who God have been using to feed us every Christmas time,’’ she said.
Akinbiola had earlier empowered no fewer than 50 youths with cash gifts of N5, 000 and N10, 000 each.
He also organised an ongoing female football competition in Irele to lighten moods for the celebration.
