Police warn Lagos residents against impunity
By OKOSUN OKHUELEIGBE
The Lagos State Police Command on Tuesday warned Lagos residents against engaging in acts of impunity to subvert the law thereby hindering the efforts of the Nigerian Police to fight crime within the metropolis.
The Lagos State Police Command spokesperson, DSP Joseph Offor said the police on Sunday arrested Comrade Victor Edward Adinije, Reuben Timinipre and Amuda Isah (all male) for blocking the road with a Gold colour Toyota Camry with Registration No: APP 656 CD, thereby obstructing the movement of the police who were on a rescue mission to bust a gang of robbers who were robbing a victim.
Explaining that the ugly incidents occurred on Sunday, 1 November, 2015 about 2330hours at Idiroko/Anthony Bus Stop, when the three men obstructed Police Anti-crime patrol team responding to a distress call when a victim of flat tyre was being robbed by hoodlums.
In the process, due to the inability of the police to have access the place as a result of the blockade, the suspected robbers escaped to an unknown destination.
DSP Offor added that henceforth such impunity by some unscrupulous members of the public to obstruct or undermine law enforcement agents in the execution of their lawful duties will not be tolerated.
While warning the general public to desist from act capable of undermining the effort of the police to reduce crime in Lagos to its barest minimum, he pointed out that the trio will be arraigned in court soon to serve as deterrents to others.
He further used the opportunity to assure Lagosians of the resolve of the police to put necessary measures in place to guarantee safety of life and property especially during this festive period.
