Red alert: Grand plot against Nigeria by western countries –Gen Haruna
Maj-Gen Ibrahim (rtd) has described the red alert on Nigeria by some western countries as a plot to promote disorder and panic in Nigeria.
Recall that governments of the US, UK, Germany, Bulgaria, Ireland, Australia, Canada and Denmark have cautioned their citizens against non-essential travel to Abuja, Nigeria’s capital over a heightened risk of terror attacks.
The embassies had listed targets to include schools, government buildings, hotels, markets, shopping malls, bars, athletic gatherings, transport terminals, law enforcement facilities, restaurants, places of worship and international organizations.
Haruna who revealed this on Arise TV programme- The Morning Show on Tuesday monitored by National Daily, insisted the red alert warning was ill timed and a grand plot.
“I would only say that I’m impressed by the way the government has handled this situation,” he added.

“This red alert on the country is a blackmail on Nigeria. I am very apprehensive of what their real intentions are. I will describe it as hostile. These interests with NATO connivance will not let us rest whenever the country is making progress.”
“There is a diplomatic code if we’re to behave in circumstances like this. And I think that the red alert has been given totally out of context of diplomatic niceties. I think that we’re being threatened by the circumstances we’re in.
The former Minister of Information and Culture accused the western countries of fighting Nigeria to further cripple her economy.
“Now, they create situations where they would like to see us creating more IDPs rather than making progress in our economic development and they like to choose where and when to reinvest this money. They have been stealing our oil all these years, and now that the country is blocking that avenue, they‘re angry, and will do anything to create panic in the country.
“I am saying that and then they are the ones who are actively working against us, to enable us achieve our expected greatness as an African country and as a black nation.
“They are the ones I think have hand in the stealing of our oil in the non-remittances of high income revenues that could have been available for development and then turn around and lend it to us.
“I think there is a plot against Nigeria. I’m not holding America responsible. They are responsible to pursue their own interests, and we are responsible to pursue and make sure that our territories and our people are secure,” he added.
