Technology enhances operations of NIPOST, Says Enugu postal manager

The Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST) has revealed that technology has played a significant role in improving its operations, allowing the agency to better fulfill its mandate.

Dr. Chris Ashiedu, the Enugu Postal Manager, made this known during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday at the ongoing 36th Enugu International Trade Fair.

The 10-day fair, which kicked off on Friday, is themed “Developing Nigeria’s Industrial Sector/SMEs for Economic Advancement and Global Recognition.”

Ashiedu addressed concerns over the role of technology in NIPOST, particularly regarding whether it was replacing traditional postal services.

He clarified that technology was not displacing the agency’s activities but was instead enhancing its ability to meet operational goals and fulfill its mandate more efficiently.

“Technology is not taking over our activities; rather, it is making it easier to achieve our operational targets and fulfill our mandate more efficiently,” Ashiedu explained.

One of the key advancements he highlighted was NIPOST’s reliable and trusted parcel and goods tracking system, which allows customers to monitor the movement of their consignments from the comfort of their homes or offices.

NIPOST, Ashiedu said, now also offers financial services such as agent banking, made possible through digital and high-speed technology. This development has simplified financial transactions, especially for Nigerians living in remote or unbanked areas.

“People in rural areas can now receive cash without the burden of traveling long distances to access banking services,” Ashiedu noted.

Further demonstrating NIPOST’s embrace of technology, Ashiedu shared that the agency is developing a technological application to track unregistered courier and logistics companies and identify their remote operational locations.

The Enugu Postal Manager also mentioned that NIPOST had expanded into e-commerce, digital postcode systems, and e-government services—all driven by technological advancements.

“NIPOST has fully embraced technology, recognizing its benefits in streamlining work, improving service delivery, and enhancing everyday life,” he added.

In addition to these services, NIPOST continues to offer traditional services such as mail and logistics, stamp authentication, stamp sales, and philately (the collection and study of postage stamps).

As NIPOST continues to integrate technology into its services, it aims to further enhance its contributions to the Nigerian economy and provide more accessible solutions for all Nigerians.
