UDUTH inaugurates committee to strengthen community partnership
The management of Usmanu Danfodiyo University Teaching Hospital (UDUTH), Sokoto, has inaugurated Friends of the Hospital Committee to strengthen community partnerships.
Inaugurating the committee on Wednesday, UDUTH’s Chief Medical Director (CMD), Prof. Anas Ahmad Sabir, said the committee was to facilitate assistance from philanthropists, corporate organisations and members of the business community.
Sabir expressed gratitude to the committee members for accepting to assist the hospital in spite of their respective schedules.
The CMD described the committee’s activities as central to the growth and development of the health institutions, stressing that government health institutions were over-stretched.
He emphasised that for the hospital to provide effective and efficient healthcare services, there was need for support from philanthropists, NGOs and corporate organisations.
He acknowledged that some individuals had been supporting the hospital but there was need to establish appropriate channels to get more support toward ensuring optimal delivery to the ever-increasing patients to the hospital.
He explained that the membership of the committee was carefully selected based on experience, knowledge and contributions
to the development of humanity.

He promised to provide necessary support and cooperation that would ease the committee’s assignment and assured them that their recommendations would be judiciously utilised.
In his acceptance speech, the committee Chairman, Alhaji Aliyu Attahiru-Galadanci, thanked the hospital management for finding them worthy to serve.
Attahiru-Galadanci, also a traditional title holder — the Galadiman Gari of Sokoto, described the committee’s work as service to humanity.
He, therefore, urged members to use their wealth of experience and knowledge toward achieving the objectives.
He promised that the committee would do all it could to justify the confidence reposed in them.
The National Daily reports that the committee has Alhaji Bashir Hussain, the UDUTH Deputy Director Human Resources as Secretary and has Alhaji Lawal Maidoki, the Executive Secretary, Sokoto State Zakat and Endowment Commission, Alhaji Hamza Isah Gwadabawa, a retired Permanent Secretary and Proprietor, Al-Huda Schools, Sokoto.
Others are Alhaji Muazu Maiwurno, Chairman, Sokoto State Chamber of Commerce and Agriculture,
Prof. Nasiru Musa-Yauri, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto and Prof. Aliyu Makusidi, Head, Department of Internal Medicine in UDUTH.
Other members included Alhaji Umaru Musa-Yeldu, Managing Director, Hydrocarbon Nigeria Limited and Hajia Ubaida Bello, Special Adviser to the Sokoto State Governor on Non-governmental Organisations.
