Unizik pledges justice as viral video shows student assaulting lecturer
Awka, Nigeria – The management of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka (Unizik), has vowed to ensure justice is served following the emergence of a viral video showing a student physically assaulting a lecturer on campus.
In an official statement signed by Njelita Louis O., the Acting Head of Information, Public Relations, and Protocol, the institution confirmed that the incident involved Dr. Chukwudi Okoye, a lecturer in the Department of Theatre Arts and Film Studies, and Goddy Mbakwe Precious, a 300-level student in the Department of History and International Studies.
The statement emphasized that the university is treating the matter with utmost seriousness and called on all concerned parties to remain calm. According to the institution, the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Joseph I. Ikechebelu, has ordered a “full-scale, transparent, and unbiased investigation” into the case to ensure a fair resolution.

“There is no place for indiscipline, misconduct, or any form of unacceptable behavior within our community,” the statement read, reinforcing the university’s commitment to upholding discipline and maintaining a conducive learning environment.
Unizik further assured the public that updates regarding the investigation will be provided as necessary.
The university reaffirmed its dedication to handling the situation promptly and fairly, ensuring that due process is followed without bias while safeguarding its reputation for justice and integrity.
