Yobo signs off in style

Former captain of the Super Eagles, Joseph Yobo, brought his playing career to a glorious close on Friday evening, with a centenary and testimonial match played in his honour at the Adokiye Amiesiamaka stadium in Port Harcourt.

Some of the stars on parade to honour Yobo were four-time African footballer of the year, Samuel Eto’o from Cameroon, former DR Congo star Tresor Lomana Lualua, Sulley Muntari and Stephen Appiah both from Ghana and current and former Super Eagles players.

At the end of the hour-long encounter, Team Nigeria defeated Team World 5-4, in front of over 10,000 spectators.

Emmanuel Emenike scored a hat-trick for Team Nigeria, which had the mercurial Austin Jay Jay Okocha pulling the strings, while Samuel Eto’o put up a spirited performance much to the admiration of the fans.

Former Everton and Manchester United boss, David Moyes, took charge of Team World, while National U-23 Coach Samson Siasia was in charge of Team Nigeria.

The Nigeria Football Federation presented a plaque, a big card and a Jersey with number 101 to commemorate the occasion for the former Super Eagles captain.

Joseph Yobo played in 101 matches for the Super Eagles in a glittering career that saw him turn out for the likes of Everton and Fenerbache.
