CAF awards Nigeria three points after Libya match postponement
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has awarded Nigeria a win and the full three points for the postponed 2025 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier against Libya. The decision was announced in a statement on Saturday.
Originally scheduled for October 15 at the Martyrs of February Stadium in Benghazi, the match was disrupted when the Nigerian national team was held at Al Abaq airport for over 20 hours without food and drinks.

Subsequently, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) announced the Super Eagles’ withdrawal from the match.
In response, the Libyan Football Federation (LFF) claimed that the diversion of the Nigerian team’s flight was not intentional. CAF had previously initiated an investigation into the “disturbing” incident.
Ultimately, CAF ruled in favor of Nigeria, awarding them all three points for the forfeited match against Libya. Additionally, the Libyan Football Federation was fined $50,000, with no option to appeal the decision.
