The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 19-year-old woman, identified as Aisha Musa, for allegedly attempting to poison her husband at Gwamma village in Bauchi Local Government Area.

The incident reportedly occurred about 40 days after the couple got married, with the suspect accused of adding a toxic substance to her husband’s food.

In a statement issued on Thursday, August 13, 2026, the Police Public Relations Officer, Superintendent of Police Nafiu Habib, said the command received a distress call at about 7:40 p.m. concerning the alleged poisoning.

According to the police, operatives were immediately deployed to the area following the report and arrested the suspect.

The victim was subsequently rushed to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH), Bauchi, where he is receiving medical treatment.

The police said preliminary investigations indicated that the suspect allegedly contaminated the food with a poisonous substance. Officers reportedly recovered an empty container suspected to have contained the substance, as well as remnants of the affected meal.

“Operatives recovered an empty bottle suspected to have contained the poison alongside remnants of the food, which have been registered as exhibits,” Habib said.

The police spokesperson added that the suspect allegedly confessed during questioning to contaminating her husband’s food.

Aisha Musa remains in police custody as investigators work to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and gather further evidence.

The command said the investigation would be concluded before the suspect is formally charged in court.

Authorities have not disclosed the alleged motive for the incident, while the condition of the victim remains under medical observation.
