A Makurdi Magistrates’ Court on Thursday ordered the remand of a farmer, Agah Duche, in a correctional centre for alleged culpable homicide, pending legal advice.

The Magistrate, Mrs Ajuma Igama, who gave the order, did not take the plea of Duche for want of jurisdiction.

Igama adjourned the case until April 4 for further mention.

Earlier, the Police prosecutor, Sgt. Ato Godwin told the court that the case was reported by Zaki Tsellagh of RCM Church, Akoko Ushongo Local Government Area (LGA) of Benue.

Godwin said that Tsellagh reported the matter at the Police station at Lessel on March 5.

The prosecutor said Duche conspired with others, at large, and beat up one Igbawase Iorzua to death, claiming the victim stole his goat.

He said that the suspect was arrested for committing the crime.

Godwin said that investigation into the matter was ongoing and prayed the court for another date for mention.

He said the offence contravened the provisions of sections 97 and 222 of the penal code Law of Benue 2004.
