Oba of Benin receives legal documents of repatriated Bronzes

The Oba of Benin, His Royal Majesty, Oba Ewuare II, on Monday received the legal documents of the deed of transfer of the return of the looted Bronze Cockerel and the Oba Bronze Head, which were  handed over to the Nigerian authorities penultimate week in the United Kingdom (U.K).

The representatives of the Nigerian government and the UK authorities facilitating that return of the looted bronzes, appended their signatures in the legal documents in the presence of the royal family, traditional rulers from different parts of the country, friends and well-wishers of the Benin Kingdom at the Palace of the Oba of Benin.

The Nigerian High Commissioner to the U.K., Tunji Ishola, appending his signature on the dead of transfer, disclosed that the has physical possession of the bronzes before the signing, noting that the English law requires that a deed of transfer be signed by the mediating parties.

His Royal Majesty, Oba Oba Ewuare II of the Benin Kingdom was, thereafter, formally handed over the signed documents as the custodian of the returned Benin artefacts from the U.K.
