I’ll not leave PDP, but continue to fight from within – Wike
Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State at a meeting with Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) stakeholders in the 319 wards of the state at the Banquet Hall of the Government House, Port Harcourt, on Thursday, assured that despite the agitation and contrary to some expectations, he will not leave the PDP with his loyalists but continue the fight from within for internal democracy.
Governor Wike said that the meeting was convened to brief the party leaders in the state on the recent events in the party, including his plan to hold a media interaction on Friday at 10.00am to speak on the state of the PDP in Nigeria. He said that retreating from a fight is a sign of weakness.
Wike told the party stakeholders that he will use the media interaction to narrate his side of the story and expose the ill characters of some persons who pride themselves as national leaders.
The governor was of the view that after the media interaction, it will be left for Nigerians to decide if such people are still worthy of the ovation they are accorded. He questioned why the PDP is promising to unify Nigeria but cannot unite itself.
Governor Wike expressed optimism that “despite the internal crisis at the national level and a pocket of antagonism by some ungrateful PDP members in Rivers State, the party will retain all elective positions in the state.”
The governor cautioned PDP members in Rivers State to resist the temptation of being moles in the state party, saying that “there will be no loopholes in the strategy that will be adopted by the party in the state for the 2023 elections”.
