Chrisland University, Abeokuta, has lauded the Alake and Paramount Ruler of Egbaland, Oba (Dr) Adedotun Gbadebo and Chief (Mrs) Folorunso Alakija, a philanthropist and business woman.
The commendation came as the institution prepares for its 4th convocation on Tuesday, Nov.8.
At a news conference in Abeokuta on Wednesday, Prof. Chinedum Babalola, the Vice-Chancellor of the institution, said the Alake and Alakija would be given honorary doctorate degrees in Political Science and Business Administration respectively.
According to her, the conferment of honorary degrees on Gbadebo and Alakija is the first in the history of the institution.
Babalola explained that the Alake, in addition to being honoured the Doctorate Degree in Political Science, major roads in the institution would be named after him.
“The Alake has continued to support the institution since its establishment few years ago and deserves to be honoured.”
On Alakija who would be honoured with Doctorate Degree in Business Administration, the vice-chancellor said: “She has a golden heart.
“She runs charity organisations that have impacted widows and vulnerable in the society positively.”
Babalola said that 52 students would be graduating during the 4th convocation taking place at the school premises on Tuesday, Nov. 8.
She said that nine students bagged first class, 27 with second class upper, 14 with second class lower degrees while two students would be graduating with a third class honours.
She said that Tolu Afolabi from the Department of Biochemistry emerged Best Overall Student with Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 4.92.
The vice-chancellor stated that there would also be the inauguration of College of Law Building during the convocation, saying that admission into the college would commence this session.
” All our programmes are fully accredited by National Universities Commission.
” Our students are taught entrepreneurship from 100 level to final year. We prepare them for what to expect outside.
“All our graduating students already have a business plan because without a business plan, you can not graduate at Chrisland university.
” The university also awarded entrepreneurship certificate to Chrisland university graduates,” she said.
The vice-chancellor added that the convocation lecture would be delivered by Dr Derin Awosika, Chairman, Access Bank.
The theme of the lecture is “The Visible and Invisible Hands of Development : Interrogating the Roles of Tertiary Institutions and Financial Sector in the Country”.
