Biafra League militants confront Cameroonian military in Bakassi Peninsula, chase foreign oil workers
Am unidentified group of militants perceived to be the Black Marine, a protesting wing of the Biafra Nations League, operating in Bakassi Peninsula and the Gulf of Guinea, in the agitation for the Biiafra sovereign state, on Thursday confronted the Rapid d’intervention Battalion (BIR), a Cameroonian military unit, at Idabato subdivision, on the Nigeria/Cameroon border. The Black Marine has been dominant in militancy activities in the Gulf of Guinea and the Bakkassi Peninsula in the course of the Biafra agitation in Nigeria.

According to a source, the militants were in the trail of a foreign speed boat conveying oil workers in the Peninsula when the Cameroonian military struck, shooting to deter the militants. The speed boat ferrying five oil workers was said to have fled the Bakassi Peninsula as the militants engaged the Rapid d’intervention Battalion (BIR) of Cameroon in exchange of gunfire.
The Biafra Nations League had earlier demanded the Nigerian government to release Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) or stop oil exploration in the Peninsula. The group had also told Cameroon to withdraw its forces from Bakassi Peninsula, and desist from imposing tax on the people resident in the Peninsula, protesting they are not Cameroonian citizens.
